SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD

CUB SCOUT PACK 98

UNIFORM INSPECTION GUIDELINES

Uniform Inspections will be conducted in Pack 98 at every other Pack Meeting.  The Den Chiefs will score each Scout on the following criteria, with a maximum score of 14 (with 2 possible bonus points for optional items).  The scores of each Scout in a Den will be averaged for the Den’s score.  Points scored by Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders will be added to the Den’s total for extra credit; their points can only increase a Den’s average score.

Each Scout should try to comply with the “Required Items” set forth below at every Pack Meeting or other event when he wears his uniform, not just on Uniform Inspection night.

Uniform Rules and Regulations

When to Wear Your Uniform.  The official uniforms are intended primarily for use in connection with Scouting activities.  Except as indicated below, they should be worn to (a) all Den and Pack events (including fundraisers) and (b) council-sponsored activities, such as Scout Night at a sporting event.  Uniforms may be worn (i) to school, church or any family function or (ii) when selling tickets to events that are approved by the council, such as Scouting shows.

When to Wear Your Pack 98 T-Shirt.  Official Pack 98 T-shirts should be worn (a) on optional Pack trips, such as overnights, (b) at summertime events, such as the Pack Picnic, and (c) as determined by the Pack Committee.  Rule of thumb:  If in doubt as to whether to wear the uniform or the T-shirt, either (i) ask your Den Leader or Assistant Den Leader or (ii) wear the uniform.

When NOT to Wear Your Uniform or Pack 98 T-Shirt.  Neither the Scout uniform nor the Pack T-shirt shall be worn by either Cub Scouts or adult leaders when:

à           involved in any distinctly political endeavor;

à           appearing on the stage professionally without special approval from the National Executive Board;

à           taking part in parades, except when (a) rendering service as a Cub Scout or leader or (b) officially representing the BSA; or

à           participating in demonstrations not authorized by the BSA.

General Rules.  All uniforms, badges and insignia of the BSA may be used only by members of the BSA who are registered and in good standing.  No alteration of or addition to the official uniform, badges or insignia, or the rules and regulations covering the wearing of the uniform, may be authorized by anyone except the National Executive Board.  Badges awarded by organizations other than the BSA may not be worn on the official uniform (exceptions:  Historic Trails Award and religious emblems).

More Information.  See the BSA Rules and Regulations and the BSA Insignia Guide for additional information on uniform rules and regulations.

Questions?  Speak to your Den Leader or Assistant Den Leader, who should mention any questions to the Cubmaster to ensure uniformity within the Pack.
